Customer convenience & trust:
Customers don't want to learn new systems and solutions, they want to stick with what they know and use. As the main use of EMV Cards (Debit or Credit) will be spending money on Point Of Sale (POS) and retrieving money from Automatic Teller Machines using his Chip and PIN, it is very likely he will easy adopt this method for other channels. As this will be the most convenient for the customer.
The first relation between a customer and his bank is trust. Else the customer won't trust his money to the bank. If the bank comes up with difficult to use or remember solutions, or solutions where often additional help is needed (Password reset by call center), chances are the trust is no longer there for that channel.
In Brazil, due to all the Phishing and hacking the Financial Institutions have seen a decrease of 30% of their internet use. This is clearly due to the lack of trust.
"One Chip One PIN for Everything" will be a winner.
