Involvement of MasterCard and VISA:
MasterCard started with the idea of the Chip Authentication program, as they have been confronted with the success of Rabobank in the Netherlands using our UnConnected Smart Card reader for multi channel authentication.
MasterCard has developed and defined the specifications and schemes for the Chip Authentication Program (CAP).
In collaboration with the UK banking association APACS, MasterCard has altered the CAP specification in order to adopt for the use of the additional EMV Authentication application solution as requested by leading UK Financial Institutions.
VISA has acknowledged during spring of 2004, it will support the Chip Authentication Program and will collaborate with MasterCard.
