One DIGIPASS secures multiple applications

VASCO’s multi OTP technology offers enhanced security for banks and application providers who need to secure multiple applications with a single DIGIPASS. With these devices, VASCO responds to the need of customers who have adopted traditional one-time password authentication technology and want to secure additional applications.

For banks one-button multi OTP devices can be used to secure different applications such as online customer log-on, payment validation, ATM withdrawals... One-button multi OTP devices also provide a solution for banks who want to secure multiple applications (e.g. online banking, stock trading and insurance) but where the divisions responsible for these applications operate in independent legal entities.

Multi OTP technology also provides a solution for application service providers (ASPs), such as online gaming providers or SaaS-vendors who have several applications they want to secure with a single DIGIPASS but using different OTPs for the different applications.

Enhanced security

One DIGIPASS will be able to generate up to three different OTPs. These passwords can differ in length when desired and are preceded by a customized message.

Multi OTP devices provide enhanced security compared to traditional one-button devices. A different OTP can be used for log-on and payment validation - minimizing the risk of man-in-the middle attacks.
Banks and application providers can decide real-time which OTP the user should use. For instance, when an end-user makes a high-risk transaction, the bank or ASP can prompt the user to use a different OTP.

The multiple OTP techology is available on the entire DIGIPASS GO range with exception of DIGIPASS GO 1 and GO 8.

How does it work

The multi-OTP device can generate up to three different OTPs which can be used for different applications or transactions. Each of these three OTPs can be customized to suit the customer's need.

1. Press the button once to generate an OTP. This OTP will be traditionally used to log-on.
   
   
2. Press the button twice to launch the next OTP application. The OTP will be automatically displayed after three seconds. This OTP can for instance be used for transaction payments or a second application requiring a different log-on.
   
   
3. Press the button three times to launch the final OTP application. The OTP will be automatically displayed after three seconds. This OTP can for instance be used for high risk transaction payments.
